Can you only call yourself an author once you've been published?
Stop with the labels. Isn't this the era of breaking ceilings and labels?
If you write then you are the author of your work. If you're published, well then you're a published author. We are more than the few things we do, so don't concentrate so much on the 'label', you do you boo.
If you on are on the mission of figuring out how to professionalize that passion of what you're doing - writer or not - check out the book Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield. It will kick start that motivation and you'll figure out what's blocking you in your next steps.
